Transforming Smiles, Changing Futures

Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital conditions, occurring when the two sides of the upper lip or roof of the mouth fail to join. In Pakistan, over 9,000 children are born with these conditions each year, but only 40% receive necessary treatment, leaving 60% neglected. Tragically, children with cleft deformities often face serious challenges, including difficulty breastfeeding, chronic malnutrition, speech impediments, and social stigma, which can lead to emotional distress and exclusion from their communities.

Key Facts:

9,000+

children born annually with cleft conditions in Pakistan.

90%

of affected children come from low-income families who cannot afford surgical care.

Our Commitment to Care

Since 2007, Al-Mustafa Welfare Society has provided free cleft lip and palate surgeries at Al-Mustafa Hospital in Karachi and through mobile surgical camps across the country. We have successfully organized over 356 cleft surgery camps, focusing on rural and underprivileged areas where access to healthcare services is limited.

Comprehensive Services Include:

Surgical Care:

Expert surgeons perform free surgeries, restoring both function and appearance.

Speech Therapy:

Essential support for improving communication skills in children.

Dental and ENT Care:

Timely interventions for associated health issues.

Psychological Support:

Counseling to help families cope with emotional challenges.

Long-Term Impact

Al-Mustafa’s Cleft Project extends beyond surgical intervention. We are committed to raising awareness about cleft conditions, advocating the importance of treatment through various media channels. Our efforts include comprehensive cleft care treatments like Naso-Alveolar moulding (NAM), orthodontics, and training for healthcare professionals. We also encourage the enrolment of children in schools, supporting their social integration and educational opportunities.

At Al-Mustafa Welfare Society, we believe that restoring smiles is just the beginning. Our aim is to transform lives and empower families, ensuring every child born with a cleft lip or palate receives the dignity and care they deserve. Your support is vital in helping us continue this essential mission and make a lasting difference in the lives of these children and their families.
